"If we want to achieve true peace in the world, we must start with children." -Mahatma Gandhi
We start...
For a study carried out by the European Commission, 10,000 young people aged 15 to 18 in the European Union were surveyed about children's rights. The results show that 67 percent of those surveyed know that young people have certain rights. However, 76 percent did not know what these rights were and 79 percent did not know how to enforce their rights or who to turn to if they needed help.
But children must know that they not only have the right to care, but also to protection, to education and support and also to self-determination and participation in everything that affects them. Knowledge about children's rights is also indispensable for the development of a democratic understanding of coexistence.
Only those who know their rights can stand up for them and demand them. In order to defend these rights towards adults, children need the certainty that they are right.
In this project, children learn about their rights!
The project was funded by the City of Hanover's Living Together Society Fund
